What is Spinach?

Spinach is a leafy green vegetable that belongs to the amaranth family. It is rich in essential vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber. It has been used as a healthy food item for centuries and can be eaten raw or cooked. It contains high levels of vitamin A, iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium as well as antioxidants which help protect against disease. The leaves are also an excellent source of folate, zinc and phosphorus.

Can Budgies Eat Spinach?

Yes, budgies can eat spinach but it should only ever be offered in small quantities due to the oxalic acid content present in spinach which may cause digestive issues if consumed in large amounts over time. Oxalic acid binds with calcium from other foods reducing their absorption rate into the body making it difficult for budgies to effectively utilize all the nutrients they need when eating spinach alone on a regular basis. Therefore spinach should only ever be fed as part of a balanced diet alongside other fresh fruits and vegetables like apples, carrots, celery etc… Feeding your budgie some cooked or steamed spinach (without adding any salt or seasonings) once every two weeks would provide them with valuable nutrition while still limiting their exposure to oxalic acid levels found naturally within this plant-based foodstuff.

Additionally you might want to consider removing any stems before offering this treat too because these contain even more oxalic acids than do the leaves themselves! Be sure not offer too much at one time – no more than half teaspoon per day – so that your pet does not become ill from consuming too much of this nutritious but potentially dangerous vegetable item!
